Frantiskovy Lazne is the first mud baths ever established in the world opened in 1792. In the same year, Austrian Emperor Franz I was crowned a Czech king and the spa was thus named after him. The local therapeutic facilities specialize in the treatment of heart and blood circulation problems, of locomotion organs disorders, but mainly of gynecologic concerns, including infertility.

Jesenik Spa came into existence thanks to Vincenz Priessnitz, the founder of hydrotherapy, who established there the first hydrotherapy center in the world in 1822. Jesenik's specific climate with increased air ionization and higher radon emanation has very favourable effect on patients suffering from diseases of the respiratory and nervous system and of the locomotive organs. Jesenik also offers many possibilities for tourism and winter sports.

Karlova Studanka is one of the most beautiful spas in the Czech Republic thanks to its favourable climate and location in the picturesque countryside. The spa serves as a specialized sanatorium providing treatment to patients suffering from diseases of the respiratory organs and locomotive disorders, in the treatment of which the unique pure mountain climate proves beneficial. Especially the springs of iron acidulous water are famous. The spa buildings from the beginning of 19th century are also architectonically interesting.

Karlovy Vary, also known as Carlsbad, is named after the Emperor Charles IV, who founded the city in 1370. It is historically famous for its hot springs (12 main springs and about 300 smaller springs) and it is also the largest spa in the Czech Republic. In the 19th century, it became a popular tourist destination, especially for international celebrities. The city is also known for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and a popular Czech liqueur Becherovka. The water and mud are used to treat patients with digestive and musculoskeletal problems‚ diabetes and obesity.

The Luhacovice Spa is the largest and the most attended spa in Moravia with a tradition of more than 300 years. It specializes in the treatment of respiratory system diseases, metabolic malfunctions, locomotive disorders and digestive tract problems. Sixteen mineral springs and one sulphur spring supply a natural source of treatment. Luhacovice owes its fame, among other things, to the beautiful architecture of its sanatoria and parks.

Marianske Lazne’s springs became very popular at the end of the 19th century. The city was and still is visited by the great personas of politics, culture, science and sport. Let’s remember J. W. Goethe, F.Chopin or the tennis player I. Lendl. The balneal facilities of Marianske Lazne specialize in the treatment of the disorders affecting kidneys, urinary tract, and locomotion organs. Forty springs, both cold and hot, rise here.

Podebrady Spa, where the heart and the circulation system are treated, is situated 50km east of Prague. The small spa originated here already in the 17th century, but the main spring of mineral water with therapeutic effects was discovered later in 1905. Picturesque parks and surroundings are completed by a wide offer of cultural, sports and social events.

Teplice nad Becvou Spa where, first of all the heart and vascular diseases and diseases of the locomotive apparatus are treated, has offered relaxation and professional care since the 16th century already. A unique medicinal mean are baths in the alkali earthy acidulous water with a high content of carbon dioxide. The Zbrasovske aragonite caves with doughnut shaped mineral formations can be also found in the spa district.

One of the oldest and, at the same time, the most modern spa in Europe concentrates on the treatment of diseases of the locomotive, circulatory and neural systems. Teplice Spa also offers a children's sanatorium which focuses on the treatment of conditions resulting from cerebral palsy and movement disorders. The local extensive parks offer tranquility and visitors can admire the impressive architecture of the Empire-style and Art Nouveau buildings.

There are more than thirty spa towns in the Czech Republic. Some of them are represented just by a single sanatorium. However, the quality of the treatment reaches very high level everywhere.
